Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Determine job requirements
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Comply with work health and safety (WHS) requirements at all times
  • Interpret the client's requirements for a metallurgical application
  • Develop the project requirements and parameters with client
  • Research the context and parameters of the metallurgical project including the planning, design and problem-solving process
  • Prepare a report on the commercial and metallurgical context and parameters of the metallurgical project

Element: Prepare concept proposal for metallurgical solution
  • Generate different approaches to achieve project objectives
  • Check feasibility of metallurgical solutions against project parameters
  • Assess metallurgical solutions for conformity to WHS and environmental requirements
  • Seek opinions of colleagues and technical experts from other disciplines
  • Prepare plan and concept proposal that includes results of feasibility study consideration including calculations and modelling
  • Review concept proposal with client to improve outcomes and overcome possible problems

Element: Implement the planning, design or problem-solving process for metallurgical project
  • Select and manage resources and processes to develop the plan or design
  • Document management processes
  • Incorporate appropriate components and systems in the planning and design process
  • Use appropriate calculations and assumptions in implementing the planning and design process
  • Use appropriate computing hardware and software and programming techniques in the planning and design process
  • Apply appropriate metallurgical and other scientific, engineering and commercial principles and knowledge to implement planning and design process
  • Review concept proposal for metallurgical solution against planning and design process in order to prepare firm metallurgical solution for client

Element: Review metallurgical solution with client and prepare implementation plan
  • Review solution to ensure conformity with current specification, contract and organisational procedures, WHS and regulatory standards
  • Present and explain metallurgical solution and implementation plan to client including presentation of supporting documentation
  • Achieve and document client acceptance of the design and implementation plan

Element: Implement metallurgical project

Element: Review metallurgical project outcomes
  • Review project outcomes in terms of the intended and actual outcomes
  • Prepare the report in accordance with organisational requirements

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

Assessment task 1: [title]      Due date:

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
